Brussels, 28/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton “unreservedly” condemned, on Thursday 28 June, the “unacceptable” racist and anti-Semitic statements made by Iran's First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi during the United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse, on 26 June. Reza Rahimi said that drug distribution in the world is the result of the teachings of the Talmud (a text of Judaism), the aim of which is to destroy the world. The Iranian official went on to say that the Talmud teaches that it is legal to gain wealth through legal or illegal means, which gives people of the Jewish confession the right to destroy humanity. He took the view that the Zionist regime is the main culprit responsible for drug trafficking worldwide. Catherine Ashton stated that such comments “should not be tolerated”. (CG/transl.jl)
