Brussels, 28/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - European Internal Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström and Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat signed an amended visa facilitation agreement in Brussels on 27 June, making it easier to obtain certain kinds of visas, for example multiple-entry visas, for specific categories of Moldovans. It is intended that this will lead on to the full liberalisation of visas for all Moldovan nationals. The EU and Moldova signed a mobility partnership in 2008 which makes provision, inter alia, for visa dialogues, and, in January 2011, Commissioner Malmström set an action plan to take Moldova to the liberalised visa regime. The commissioner called for swift ratification of the visa facilitation agreement by Moldova, which she hopes will come into force before the end of 2012. (SP/transl.rt)
