Strasbourg, 11/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Füle, who is in Serbia to attend the swearing in of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, called on Monday 11 June for a government to be formed quickly. This would mean that reforms on, for example, judicial issues, tackling corruption and organised crime and dialogue with Kosovo, could continue and move forward, enabling the Commission to submit a recommendation that the country's accession negotiations be opened.
Füle said that the EU expected Serbia to make efforts in its dialogue with Kosovo, leading to a “visible and sustainable improvement in relations”. Making clear that he wanted the dialogue to resume as quickly as possible, the commissioner stated that “it is also important to implement the already reached agreement. This is one of the key reasons why a new government needs to be formed quickly”.
During his visit, the commissioner met several political leaders to discuss Serbia's European future. (CG/transl.rt)
