Brussels, 22/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - Green Week 2012 (22-25 May) opened in Brussels on 22 May on the question of water - “Every Drop Counts”. It is being organised by the European Commission to raise public awareness about environmental issues and implementation of EU environmental rules. Some 300 participants are expected at the annual event.
At the official opening of Greek Week, EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik hoped that hundreds of experts and other interested parties would help develop existing strategies and new ideas about how to protect water.
In November 2012, the European Commission will be unveiling a programme to protect the EU's water resources, and at the third European conference on water (for consultations and discussion with the member states, the Commission and other interested parties) during Green Week, participants will help draw up the water protection programme.
