Brussels, 14/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU foreign ministers and High Representative Catherine Ashton called on the Yemeni authorities on Monday 14 May to do all in their power to investigate the attempted abduction of Bulgarian Ambassador Boris Genadiev Borisov in Sanaa, in an attack in which he was injured. Condemning the incident, ministers said it “represents evidence of the fragile security situation in the country”. Ashton expressed the EU's “sincere solidarity” with Bulgaria. The Council said it was “deeply concerned” by all attempts to derail Yemen's transition and called on all parties to abide by the undertakings set out in the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative and implementation mechanism, “in good faith”.
Ministers expressed their support to the process of comprehensive reform and renewal on which the Yemeni government and Yemen's transitional institutions have embarked. The Council welcomed the efforts of President Hadi to implement the provisions of the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative and implementation mechanism. It encouraged him to rapidly take forward the national dialogue, which must be inclusive.
