Brussels, 03/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 30 April, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a decision on “migration” from the Schengen Information System (SIS 1+) to the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II). The proposal aims to recast into a single legal instrument both Regulation 1104/2008 and Council Decision 2008/839/JHA. The proposal provides for a revised legal regime for the “migration” from SIS 1+ to SIS II which enables member states to use SIS II with all its functionalities from the moment of the switchover from SIS 1+ to SIS II. The SIS is an information system used by a number of member states in the context of Schengen and European police cooperation. Different security services may consult it or encode information on people or things and may, for example, gather information in the new version on non-admissions or bans on stay on Schengen territory.
