17/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - Call on behalf of human rights activist. On Tuesday 17 April, the EU urged the Bahraini authorities “in the strongest possible terms” to find a “compassionate, pragmatic and humanitarian” solution to the deteriorating health of human rights activist Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja as a matter of the “utmost urgency”. Al-Khawaja has been on hunger strike for more than two months in protest at his being sentenced to life imprisonment for his part in the pro-democracy movement last year. EU High Representative Catherine Ashton expressed her “serious and profound concern” at Al-Khawaja's situation. (CG/transl.rt)
