€1 million for more diverse and tolerant society

Brussels, 17/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Union is launching a call, with funding of €1 million, for proposals for projects which seek to enhance the role of civil society in the promotion of human rights and democratic reform in Tunisia. The country is going through a significant period of transition, in which citizens will have the opportunity to re-define their nation and their social fabric so that the new constitution, which is currently being drafted, takes account of the individual characteristics and collective needs of all, the support programme says. The EU is looking to promote diversity, tolerance and citizenship by increasing and developing cultural initiatives, including for young people and children; supporting social, economic, cultural and political inclusion for people from vulnerable groups (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals -LGBTI - minority ethnic groups, the handicapped, women, single mothers, children, and young people, for example); and contributing to the constitutional reform process through the recognition, proposal and inclusion of the specific and collective interests of minority groups and those marginalised from Tunisian society.
