12/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative Catherine Ashton calls for calm. On Saturday 10 March, Ashton called on both the Palestinians and Israelis to re-establish calm, stressing that it was “essential to avoid further escalation” of the violence. She said that it was “with concern” that the EU was following the recent escalation of violence in Gaza and in the south of Israel. She said she very much regretted the loss of life. On Monday, China called on Israel to end its raids and for a ceasefire to be put in place. Since Friday, at least 20 Palestinians have been killed in several Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip and four Israelis have been injured by rockets fired from Gaza. (CG/transl.rt)
