Brussels, 05/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - In meetings with MEPs from the foreign affairs committee on Thursday 1 March, the foreign ministers of Qatar and Jordan, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Ali Thani and Nasser Judeh argued for a joint Arab League-United Nations peacekeeping force - with the emphasis on “peace-keeping” - to be sent to Syria to “end the bloodbath” and provide humanitarian assistance. The Qatari minister ruled out military intervention. At their separate meeting, the minister and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton welcomed the appointment of former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan as the United Nations-Arab League Envoy to Syria, describing it as an “excellent choice”.
