Brussels, 01/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - European Parliament President Martin Schulz said on Wednesday 29 February that the EU may help Colombia in the process to restore land and to make compensation to the victims of FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) violence. He did not, however, give any further details. “We appreciate the great willingness shown by Martin Schulz to seek ways that allow Colombia to be successful in this process”, said Colombian Vice-President Angelino Garzon. Garzon called on the FARC to end violence, following the example of ETA in Spain. He also called for full cooperation with the EU for human rights to be fully respected.
“What we want is to end the violence … and together - the EU, Colombia and Peru - not only to work on the trade agreement but also on full respect for human rights”, Schulz said. (CG/transl.rt)
