Brussels, 13/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the Tunisian secretary of state for foreign and European affairs, Touhami Abdouli, began a visit to Brussels to establish the first contact with the European institutions since the formation of the tripartite government formation headed by the Islamic Ennahdha party.
At the European Parliament, the Tunisian minister met EP Vice-Presidents Gianni Pittella and Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou, head of the Maghreb delegation Pier Antonio Panzeri, member of the liberties and JHA committee Rosario Crocetta, and member of the foreign affairs committee José Ignacio Salafranca Sanchez-Neyra. On Friday, he is expected to meet with ambassadors from the EU Political and Security Committee (COPS), as well as Commissioners Füle and Dalli and senior officials from the Commission.
His visit aims to reassure the EU politically and will also be used to launch an appeal for speeding up the release of financial support promised since the beginning of the “revolution”, on the Saturday marking its first anniversary. (FB/transl.fl)
