Brussels, 19/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 19 December, the European Council passed a decision to appoint French national Benoît Coeuré to the European Central Bank Executive Board for eight years, starting on 1 January 2012, replacing Lorenzo Bini Smaghi of Italy, who has resigned but will remain in the job until Coeuré takes over. The ECB Executive Board is in charge of implementation of monetary policy for the eurozone, the policy being set out by the Governing Council. It is made up of the ECB president and vice-president and four other individuals, all appointed for a non-renewable eight-year term of office. The Governing Council comprises the six Executive Board members along with the governors of the central banks of eurozone nations. (LC/transl.fl)
