Brussels, 15/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - The Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) pilot programme has just been launched by the European Commission to help new green technology break into the market. It is also the first tangible initiative of the eco-innovation action plan launched on 15 December (see related article).
Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik sees it as a way of “helping companies at the cutting edge of environmental technologies make the most of the opportunities in the European single market”.
Having the performance of innovative environmental technologies independently verified will help manufacturers prove the reliability of performance claims, and help technology purchasers identify, on the basis of objective and credible information, innovations that suit their needs.
The ETV pilot programme, which is entirely voluntary, will initially cover three areas: water treatment and monitoring; materials, waste and resources; and energy technology. (AN/transl.rt)
