GENERAL NEWS / (ae) eu/state aid

23/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - Environment/Czech Republic. On Wednesday 23 November, the European Commission authorised a Czech mechanism of six billion Czech crowns (around 250 million euro) to fund projects to reduce the level of atmospheric pollution in certain highly contaminated areas of Moravia-Silesia by reconditioning “sources of non-combustion”. The measure will concern businesses in various industrial sectors (oil refinery, industrial metals, electricity, gas, etc). The Commission found that this aid complied with the legislation on state aid as it is granted by means of calls for tenders open only to companies which improve their level of environmental protection or exceed the standards for these, where they exist.
