Brussels, 02/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Roland Kobia and Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger are quoted in the Azeri press as welcoming, on behalf of the EU, the signing by Azerbaijan and Turkey of a package of gas contracts, including on the issues of prices and volumes, from 2017, of gas from the Azeri Shah Deniz-2 field to Turkey, and an agreement on the transit of Azeri gas through Turkey en route to the EU. This agreement further consolidates the pan-European Southern Gas Corridor project, which proposes to carry gas from the Caspian Region and Central Asia to the EU through the Nabucco gas pipeline, and then the TAP (trans-Adriatic) and ITGT (Italy-Greece-Turkey interconnector) pipelines. Azerbaijan is looking to provide the EU with 10 billion cubic metres of gas per year from 2017. (EH/transl.rt)
