EGF aid approved for Dutch workers

Brussels, 08/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament (EP) budgets committee approved proposals on Thursday for €5,884,197 to be made available from the EU Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help 1,764 workers in the graphics and printing sector, made redundant in a number of regions of the Netherlands. This sector has been particularly hard hit since the economic and financial crisis of 2007 with a significant downturn in the fortunes of the written press and a fall in orders for printed advertising material from other economic sectors. The overall turnover fell by 8.6% in 2009. The Council of the EU is expected on Monday 12 September to adopt its position on the aid, which is to be allocated as follows: - Zuid-Holland and Utrecht regions: €2,649,148 to help find new jobs for 800 workers made redundant by 52 firms; - Noord-Holland and Flevoland regions: €1,849,086 for 551 workers made redundant by 26 firms; - Overijssel region: €718,140 was requested for 214 workers made redundant by nine companies; - Noord-Brabant region: €667,823 for 199 workers made redundant by 14 firms.
