Brussels, 23/08/2011 (Agence Europe) - Ireland confirmed to the European Commission on 19 August that it intended to subscribe to the proposals on victims' rights brought forward by Commissioner Viviane Reding on 18 May: a draft directive guaranteeing victims certain basic rights and a draft regulation on European protection orders.
The proposed directive suggests a series of measures to be put in place by member states, such as a support service for victims of crime which will provide assistance for both them and members of their family, easier access to information in a form and language that victims will understand and the right to translation or to assistance when victims attend trials. The draft regulation seeks to ensure that a protection order issued in any member state remains valid and is recognised when the victim travels to another EU member state.
