Brussels, 14/07/2011 (Agence Europe) - Further to the three simultaneous attacks perpetrated in Mumbai on Wednesday 13 July, European officials have expressed their condolences to the families and friends of victims, while condemning such acts as “heinous” and “evil”. The head of EU diplomacy, Catherine Ashton, says in a statement that she was “horrified to hear that Mumbai has again been the target of a series of deadly bomb attacks”. She trusts, as does European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, that “the perpetrators of these evil attacks are brought to justice”. President Buzek added that “nothing can justify such vile acts of terror”, and he expressed his hope that “forgiveness and reconciliation will prevail”. At the time of going to press, the number of dead is estimated at 20 and the number of injured at 130. The attacks were carried out in three separate parts of the city and no group has as yet claimed responsibility for them. (J.K./transl.jl)
