Brussels, 13/07/2011 (Agence Europe) - A design by Helmut Andexlinger, who works as a designer for the Austrian mint, has won the competition to design the Ten Years of the Euro celebratory two euro coin to be issued next year. The same design will appear on the euro coins of all eurozone countries. Andexlinger's design illustrates that the euro has become a key player in global finance and key to the life of individuals and business. A professional jury short-listed five designs from the more than 80,000 entries; and the final winner was selected online by ordinary people, with Andexlinger's design receiving more than a third of the votes. This is the third commemorative two-euro coin. The first was minted in 2005 to celebrate 50 years of the Treaty of Rome, and the second in 2009 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Economic and Monetary Union. (Gp/transl.fl)
