Parliament appeals for death sentences not to be carried out

Brussels, 08/07/2011 (Agence Europe) - Worried that India, which has not carried out the death sentence since 2004, has now authorised the execution of two detainees, the European Parliament, on Thursday 7 July, called on the Indian government to commute the death sentences and to introduce a permanent moratorium on executions. Mahendra Nath Das was sentenced to death in 1997 for murder, and Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar in 2001, for his involvement in the 1993 bombing of the Youth Congress...
