21/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - France protests against credit cut for distribution of food to the poor. On Tuesday 21 June, France declared unacceptable the European Commission's decision to reduce the amount of funding allocated to the programme for the distribution of food to the poor of the EU (see EUROPE 10401). Laurent Wauquiez, the French minister for European affairs, said that “at a time when Europe is in crisis, it is hard to understand that the Commission is not able to fuel the programme to support the most vulnerable of our compatriots”. “We expect the Commission to finalise operational proposals allowing decisions of justice (at the origin of its decision) and political imperatives to be reconciled”, he announced. The European Commission has announced it will cut the original €500million to €113 million for the food distribution programme. (L.C./transl.jl)
