Brussels, 04/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Following a meeting with EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht in Jakarta on Wednesday 4 May, Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Pangestu said she would like to see a 20% increase in EU-Indonesia bilateral trade. Pangestu expressed confidence that this target could be reached this year, after a 42% increase last year. Trade between the two in 2010 was worth some €20 billion, with Indonesia showing a €7 billion surplus. De Gucht said he was sure the economic association agreement that was being discussed between the EU and Indonesia would double the value of bilateral trade. In the main, Indonesia exports palm oil, copper, rubber, coal shoes, plastics and furniture to the EU. Its imports from the EU consist mainly of electronic equipment, planes, motor vehicles, machinery and medicines. (E.H./transl.rt)
