26/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Resolution in sight for EU/Mauritania agreement. During the next plenary session (9-12 May in Strasbourg), the European Parliament is expected to vote on a resolution for updating the Fisheries Partnership Agreement (FPA) between the EU and Mauritania. The EP is expected to call for fishing opportunities to meet the real needs of the fleets. The EPP stresses its concern about the so-called "paper fish" trend, which has lead to an abuse of the financial compensation. The S&D welcomes the European Commission's proposal to introduce a human rights clause into the agreement. It underlines that the Fisheries Partnership Agreement (FPA) between the EU and Mauritania should be maintained, since it can be mutually beneficial if it is adjusted and correctly implemented.
