11/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Ukraine, Oettinger to inaugurate modernisation work on gas system in June. Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger will visit Ukraine in June, to attend the launch of work to modernise the Ukrainian gas system, alongside Energy Minister Yuriy Boyko. The reconstruction of the Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline will be the first stage of the process to modernise the Ukrainian gas system, with the assistance of European and international financial organisations. In 2009, the European Commission and the Ukrainian government concluded an agreement with the EBRD, the EIB, the World Bank and the IFC on granting an envelope of $2 billion to support the modernisation of the Ukrainian gas pipeline network. This financial support was conditional upon Kiev carrying out a reform of the Ukrainian regulatory framework governing the gas sector of the country. (E.H./transl.fl)
