Brussels, 25/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - On the sidelines of the European Council, a large part of which was devoted to the war in Libya, French President Nicolas Sarkozy confirmed that France had submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council on Côte d'Ivoire. Speaking to a journalist who asked whether the gravity of the crisis in Côte d'Ivoire, on the brink of civil war, might be concealed by that in Libya, the French president replied: “France has submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations. It would be shocking if the crisis in Côte d'Ivoire were cast into shadow”. He went on to add: “It is a scandal that heavy weapons are being fired in Abidjan. At the very least, a ban on heavy weapons should be declared in Abidjan - they must be declared illegal”. (A.N./transl.jl)
