Brussels, 25/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - Speaking at a press conference at the end of the European Council on Friday 25 March, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán admitted that the situation in Croatia is “extremely difficult and we do not know whether we will be able to finish accession negotiations with Croatia in June”.
He explained that the president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, is expected to visit Croatia in April and that this “will probably be the decisive moment” for the future of negotiations. Hungary is currently exercising the rotating presidency of the Council of Ministers of the EU until 31 June. Nevertheless, Orbán did say that “we are going to do everything possible to try and end negotiations with Croatia by June”. (A.By./transl.fl)
