Brussels, 15/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - The EU has said it is “very concerned” by the violence on the streets of Bahrain where troops sent by the Gulf neighbouring countries arrived on Monday 14 March to assist the regime in restoring order and repressing the protestors. A spokesperson for Catherine Ashton told the press on Tuesday 15 March: “We are very concerned by reports of serious violence in the streets of Bahrain” and “we also call on the security forces present to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms including the right to assemble freely and peacefully”. She also called for restraint and dialogue, saying: “We believe that dialogue is the only way to solve this crisis, and call on all sides to engage in a serious and constructive dialogue”.
