Brussels, 15/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - ETNO, the European Telecommunications Network Operators association, has welcomed the investigations undertaken by the European Commission into the telecoms taxes put in place by Spain, France and Hungary (see EUROPE 10336). “Such taxes as the ones in Spain, France and Hungary impose a heavy burden on a sector which is driving growth and jobs and is already facing huge investment in next generation access networks in the years to come”, ETNO says. Such taxes are not compatible with European rules and could hamper the sector's ability to invest in high speed networks and hence to meet the Digital Agenda and EUROPE 2020 objectives, it argued.
