THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/council

04/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - Fire started in Justus Lipsius building. The Justus Lipsius building that houses the EU Council of Ministers in Brussels was the target of an attempted arson attack on 3 March. Very little damage was done, according to the public prosecutor of Brussels, cited by AFP. Two fuel cans and a burnt cloth were found in a service equipment room on the seventh floor of the building, where ministers and EU heads of state and government regularly meet, sources say. Only one wall and cables in the service room were blackened. The smoke alarm went off when smoke was detected on the eighth floor. (H.B./transl.jl)
