04/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - CPMR regrets absence of regional dimension. Ahead of publication in the next few days of a roadmap on achieving a low-carbon economy by 2050, the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions slams the European Commission for paying little attention to the regional impact of the EU's energy policy. The CPMR president, president of the Brittany region of France, Jean-Yves Le Drian, says that the way grids are developed, the support or not of certain forms of new energy (like marine energy) and the question of energy poverty should take account of the specific nature of different regions. The CPMR calls on the Commission to promote the endogenous development of Europe's coastal regions by exploiting their renewable energy potential. (E. H./transl.fl)
