To mark the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, the women's rights and gender equality committee at the European Parliament is organising an inter-parliamentary committee meeting on Thursday 3 March in Brussels. This will focus on the theme of “Women in Politics in the EU”. The president of the EP, Jerzy Buzek, will open the meeting with a speech, which will be followed by speeches by Mary Robinson, the former president of Ireland, and Nicole Fontaine, the former president of the EP. On Tuesday 8 March, International Women's Day 2011 will be celebrated during the plenary session in Strasbourg, following a debate on two resolutions: one on the fight against gender inequality and the other on the feminisation of poverty.
