Brussels, 25/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) has expressed its concern about the violent breaking up of a peaceful sit-in organised in Rabat on Monday 21 February by the young people of the 20 February movement. The network wishes to convey “its solidarity and support with the protesters, including Ms Khadija Ryadi, president of the Moroccan Association of human rights (AMDH), who was assaulted during the demonstration”. The EMHRN indicates that “the demonstration was moving ahead peacefully, (but) rapid intervention forces, auxiliary forces and plainclothes policemen began insulting and intimidating the demonstrators before assaulting them with their truncheons”. The EMHRN is “concerned by the hardening attitude of the Moroccan authorities” in this connection. (F.B./transl.fl)
