24/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - EPP want Gaddafi to leave office and S&D call for inquiry. The EPP (European People's Party) has condemned the violence in Libya and says that protestors are right to call for Libyan leader Muanmar Gaddafi to be removed. The S&D (Socialists and Democrats) have called for an inquiry into Colonel Gaddafi for alleged crimes against humanity. In a statement from its leader Wilfried Martens, the EPP says: “The repression of the Libyan people … is totally unacceptable. Pro-democracy protesters cannot be silenced and they are rightfully demanding the immediate removal of Gaddafi”. In a press release, the leader of the S&D Group in the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, calls for a United Nations inquiry into the Colonel which could lead to a trial at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
