European Agriculture Commissioner Dacian Cioloº has asked his staff in the DG to consider ways of easing the difficulties on the European sugar market (very high prices because a shortage of sugar). Two options are being discussed in the Management Committee - selling out-of-quota sugar on the internal market and opening an import quota - to try to calm the market and end speculation.
