Brussels, 24/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - For the second consecutive year, 10 think tanks - Bertelsmann Stiftung, Bruegel, CEPS, Confrontations Europe, Egmont, EPC, Friends of Europe, Ifri, Madariaga and SWP - in cooperation with Agence Europe, are to hold a one-day conference devoted to discussion of the state of the Union. The conference, EUROPE 3.0: Building a viable Union on Tuesday 24 January will review how the EU has performed in four areas (economic governance and budget, energy and climate, migration, and external representation) and will draft recommendations. More than 200 experts, political leaders and members of civil society will take part in the debates, joined by European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi and Polish Secretary of State for European Affairs Miko³aj Dowgielewicz. Conclusions will be presented at a closing session open to the public, for which a further 300 people have registered. EUROPE will report on the debates in its forthcoming newsletters and a Europe-Document will be devoted to the event.
