Member states asked to take part in CoE programme

Brussels, 19/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - A call to the member states of the EU to support the efforts of the Council of Europe in schooling for Roma has been made by Ms Olöf Olafsdottir, director for training and languages of the Council of Europe. Olafsdottir attended a hearing of the EESC on schooling for Roma in Brussels last week (EUROPE 10293). In her speech, she laid out the Council of Europe's programme to prepare the Roma cultural mediators (a programme which is due to start in Strasbourg next week, on Wednesday 26 January). The countries in the EU could contribute to it, Olafsdottir said, by translating and distributing educational materials produced by the Council of Europe, joining the on-going “Dosta” campaign and providing good examples of integration and schooling for Roma in the database being created by the Council of Europe.
