On Thursday 13 January 2011, French Green MEP Michèle Rivasi asked the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to publish all the documents it has at its disposal relating to the pharmaceutical safety and monitoring of benfluorex, the active chemical in the Mediator product sold in Europe by Servier in France and Portugal, under the name “Modulator” in Spain, “Lipophoral” in Greece and “Mediaxal” in Italy. Benfluorex and its harmful effects have come under debate in EU health bodies, explains the MEP in a press release issued in France. She said that this would give the EMA a genuine opportunity to implement its new rules on transparency and access to documents decided upon in the autumn of last year. (O.J./transl/fl)
