23/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Economic governance: Rehn says European Council should go further. “Unless we make rapid and determined progress on an economic governance reform that has real relevance, real significance, I fear that we'd have to spend most of the life of this Parliament by discussing recurrent fiscal and sovereign debt crisis” warned EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn on Monday 22 November, addressing MEPs on the European Parliament's economic and monetary affairs committee. Like the ECB (see related article above) and the European Commission, many MEPs believe that the European Council's position on reform of European economic governance should go further, particularly on automatic sanctions for eurozone countries braking the Stability and Growth Pact (see EUROPE 10247).
