Füle recommends Serbo-Croat reconciliation

Brussels, 05/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - The commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy, Stefan Füle, has expressed his support and encouragement for the reconciliation process in the Western Balkans, after the visit by the presidents of Croatia and Serbia, Josipovic and Tadic, to Vukowar and Paulin Dvor, places that could, according to Füle, “become the symbols of reconciliation and an example for the entire Western Balkans region.

In a statement, Stefan Füle adds: “Both Croatia's and Serbia's future lie in the European Union, a Union where reconciliation is one of the founding features”. The commissioner underlined how important it was to have good neighbourly relations and regional cooperation as part of the stabilisation and association process, saying: “Much has been done over the past year by the leadership in Serbia and Croatia, (…). We expect this commendable work to continue (…) in a true European spirit”. (Gp/transl.jl)
