Brussels, 13/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - Tribute was paid to the late European commissioner, Antonio Ruberti, in Rome on Wednesday 13 October, attended by President of the Republic Georgio Napolitano and other well-known figures from the political and academic worlds. The university of La Sapienza, of which Ruberti was vice-chancellor, organised a symposium on the political, economic and cultural challenges of research, innovation and training to mark the 10th anniversary of his death. Ruberti, who was an engineer, researcher, university professor and Socialist parliamentarian, was minister for university and scientific research from 1987 to 1992 before becoming European commissioner for research, education and training. He developed the 4th framework programme 1994-1998 and sealed scientific cooperation agreements with many countries. (Gp./transl.jl)
