Brussels, 12/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, on the occasion of European Commissioner Stefan Füle's visit to Cairo, Egypt and the EU signed a €800 million loan agreement (6.3 billion Egyptian pounds) in support of the country's economic reform programmes. According to the Al-Ahram newspaper, the signing ceremony was held in the presence of Prime Minister Ahmed Nadhif, who called for neighbourhood policy to be consolidated. The European commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy is said to be intending to work on recasting this policy. Broad consultation is underway with all countries and stakeholders concerned (civil society, interest groups, etc) and the timeliness of such a ministerial meeting is being examined. (F.B./transl.jl)
