Jerzy Buzek hoping for united island at head of EU in 2012

Brussels, 11/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The president of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, hopes talks on the reunification of Cyprus will reach a successful conclusion in time for a united island to hold the rotating EU presidency during the second half of 2012. “A united Cyprus holding the presidency of the EU is our dream”, Buzek said on 11 October after a meeting with Cypriot President Demetrios Christofias, in Nicosia. “I trust in both leaders to reach a comprehensive solution which is important not only for Cyprus and for the region, but also for the whole EU”, he said. Buzek continues his visit to the northern part of the island on Tuesday 12 October, when he will discuss matters with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Dervis Eroglu. (H.B./transl.jl)
