08/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - The Eurogroup meeting that followed the Ecofin Council on Tuesday 7 September was unusual both because of its scheduling and by the fact that it was not followed by a press conference. Marking a break with the past, its president, Jean-Claude Juncker, did not address the press after the meeting of the Sixteen, which focused on improving the coordination of eurozone economic policies. A brief press release explained that “ministers analysed the discussions held the evening before at the Van Rompuy taskforce and discussed Eurogroup working methods”. The Eurogroup also held an exchange of views on the non-participation of Slovakia in the loans mechanism to Greece (the 14 other eurozone countries will make up the contribution that should normally have been made by Slovakia). The meeting also examined the setting up of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), launched last June (EUROPE 10165). (A.B./transl.fl)
