Commission to investigate discovery of BASF genetically modified potato illegally grown in Sweden

Brussels, 06/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - In an incident which will enrage opponents of genetically modified (GM) crops , a GM potato, cultivation of which has not been approved in the European Union, has been identified growing in fields in Sweden. Greenpeace was first to announce the news, on Saturday 4 September. The Commission confirmed the situation on Monday 6 September, without, as yet, giving any information on the exact circumstances.
