Brussels, 30/08/2010 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs (HR) Catherine Ashton has defended her decision not to attend the resumption to direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians in Washington on Thursday 2 September. She will be in China until the end of the week (see EUROPE 10202) and, so, will be not be able to represent the EU at the meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
