Brussels, 22/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague said on Thursday 22 July in its advisory opinion commissioned by Serbia that Kosovo's international declaration of independence of February 2008 had not been made in defiance of general international law. The question of recognising Kosovo's independence not only divides the international community (as things stand, 69 countries have established official relations with Pristina) but also the EU - five of the 27 member states (Spain, Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia and Greece) refuse to acknowledge Kosovo's independence. The opinion of the ICJ is not binding. The future of relations with Kosovo will also be discussed by EU foreign ministers, who will be meeting on Monday 26 July at the General Affairs Council.
