Brussels, 22/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - EU foreign ministers, who will be meeting on Monday 26 July at the General Affairs Council, will give their official go-ahead to beginning membership talks with Iceland. The first negotiation meeting with Iceland will be held the next day, on Tuesday 27 July, as part of an intergovernmental conference (IGC). Iceland will be represented by its foreign minister, Össur Skarphédinsson.
Croatia will also be making headway in its membership talks on 27 July when two more chapters are due to be closed - food safety and financial control. The country will then have closed 22 of the 35 chapters. (H.B./transl.jl)
