22/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 20 July, the European Commission authorised regional investment aid of €17 million for the German company Solibro GmbH for the production of solar modules in Bitterfeld-Wolfen (Saxony-Anhalt), in Germany. This project, which will require an investment of €142 million, is expected to create at least 260 jobs in the region. Germany set an upper limit on the amount of aid authorised, taking account of the aid granted for a previous investment project of Solibro. The Commission ruled that this aid was compatible with the guidelines on regional state aid 2007-2013. Solibro produces thin film solar modules based on the copper-indium-gallium-(di)selenide CIGS technology, which convert solar rays into electricity. Solibro is a subsidiary of Q-Cells SE, which is active in the solar energy sector internationally. (L.C./transl.fl)
