Brussels, 09/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - At the start of the week, Belgian Justice Minister Stefaan De Clerck set out the priorities of the Belgian Presidency of the EU in legal affairs for the European Parliament (EP) legal affairs committee (JURI). Better protection for the victims of crime, addressing especially the feeling of insecurity at national level, tackling human trafficking, sexual exploitation and child pornography, stronger legal cooperation among member states and better access to justice for citizens are the key legal affairs priorities, set out by De Clerck. To take account of mobility in Europe, laws on cross-border divorce (Rome III) and on inheritance will also be high on the Belgian Presidency's agenda. De Clerck looked forward to making progress on mutual recognition of judicial decision, cross-border judicial and police cooperation, a European investigation order, and strengthening the powers of Eurojust. The new Presidency also aims to find ways forward on the statute for a European private company. (B.C./transl.rt)
